It happened on the 4300 block of Bermuda Street around 6:45 p.m., police said. The victim was exiting a black Kia Sportage where four other passengers — including two young children — were sitting, the department said.
He was struck multiple times and taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his wounds, according to police. The other Kia passengers were unharmed.
Surveillance footage showed a person pacing the block for an hour or so before opening fire at the victim, authorities said.
A 29-year-old suspect was taken into custody at the scene, they added.
